Watching Ballet Folkorico de Mexico is like visiting Mexico. The company of more than fifty dancers and musicians was founded by Amalia Hernandez who has been on a never ending quest to rescue the dancing traditions of
Mexico.
With a huge trail of color, Hernandez presents the culture and history of Mexico beginning with pre-Colombian civilizations through Hispanic influences of the Vice royal era , revolutionary years and more.
Ballet Folklorico de Mexico has been internationally successful for fifty years and is a permanent presenter at the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City where they perform three times a week The music, technical perfection,
sophisticated wardrobe and original choreographies, create the magnificent character of the ballet. The ballet works and musical pieces reflect various regions and folk music genres of Mexico. Many of the ensemble’s works
reflect the traditions of indigenous Mesoamerican culture.
In their more than 100 international tours, this company has visited Europe,Asia, Latin America, and the United States and has performed more than 15,000 presentations. They have been highly acclaimed for showmanship and excitement on stage as well as for their lovely backdrops and magnificent
costumes.
