producers, officials look past politics of Cuba trip (August 15)
Heineman is the fifth U.S. governor to visit Cuba on a trade mission, said John
Kavulich, senior policy adviser and former president of the U.S.-Cuba Trade and
Economic Council. The other states, besides North Dakota, are Illinois,
Minnesota and Louisiana. Since 2001, U.S. companies from more than 20 states
have sold about $1 billion in agriculture products to Cuba
Ag leaders go to Cuba for trade deal (August 10)
Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman, the state Department of Agriculture (NDA) and
representatives of Nebraska’s agricultural producers are heading for Cuba, where
the Governor is leading a 10-member trade delegation Aug. 13-17. The Nebraska
delegation is exploring export opportunities for the state’s agricultural
products, as well as medical supplies. Congress approved exceptions to the U.S.
trade embargo with Cuba for food and medical supplies in 2000.
Officials seeking more Cuba trade (August 9)
Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie and Agriculture Secretary Steve Kerr came to Cuba to
deliver some cows, but they also hope to return to Vermont with prospects for
future trade with the island nation.
Vermont cows come home, to Cuba (August 7)
HAVANA – Nearly 2,000 miles from home, more Vermont cows arrived in Cuba on
Saturday afternoon to help rebuild that country's dairy herd. The cows landed in
the port of Havana following a voyage from Gulfport, Miss.It marked the
culmination of an effort begun nearly 18 months ago by Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie, who
traveled to Cuba on a trade mission, returning with letters of intent to buy 100
cows, 2,000 bushels of apples and 3,000 metric tons of powdered milk

Nearly 100 Vermont cows will receive a special welcome
when a trade mission led by Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie arrives in Cuba on Friday.The visit by Dubie and state Agriculture Secretary Steve Kerr is meant to
coincide with the inaugural sale of 94 registered heifers from Vermont to
help rebuild Cuba's dairy herd.
The first shipment of cows arrived in Cuba recently. The remaining Vermont
cows — as well as cows from Maine — are due to depart Gulfport, Miss., for
Havana on Thursday.

International Fair of the Caribbean in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba Foreign Trade
Minister, Raul de la Nuiz, said that Cuba trade has exceed the US$ 7 billion
level of 1991.

Buy US$412 of Venezuela Products (June 14)
Cuba Plan to purchase food and beverages including canned fish and condensed
milk and clothing such as boots and work clothes from Venezuela for a grand sum
of US$412, reported the Official Gazette, a Venezuelan government publication
detailing the trade deals between the two counties.

Citrus Harvest in Ciego de Avila Goes as Scheduled (June 14)
The beginning of citrus harvest
in Ciego de Avila district has reported an average return of 16 tons of fruit
per hectare. Official from the agriculture industry cited that this achievement
was the result from the use of modern methods, such as local irrigation in
citrus farms in Ceballas municipality.
Louisiana Trade Mission to Cuba
A contract was signed in March
committing Cuba to purchase US$15 million over 18 months for Louisiana products,
says Felipe Martinez, project manager for the Department of Economic
Development.
End of Sanctions against Cuba Could Benefit the US
June 10
Results of a recent study have shown that the lifting of US economic and
financial blockade on Cuba could generate 100 thousand new jobs and an
additional six billion dollars for the United States.

A deal with Cuba brokered by
Vermont Secretary of State, Steve Kerr, may soon bear fruit. 100 cattle which is
part of the negotiation that includes 3000 metric tons of powdered milk and 2000
bushels of apples are said to be exported to Cuba next week. This comes months
after the signing of the deal in Cuba during Havana’s annual trade fair. read
