The Dice' dethrones 'Observer After only two years of singing calypso music at the senior level,
Dennison 'The Dice' Joseph last Saturday dethroned Davidson 'Observer' Victor to
be crowned Carnival Calypso Music King 2004 of Dominica, Nature Island of the
Caribbean.
Singing at number nine, 'The Dice' first performed 'Minding My Own Business', a song calling on the leaders of the world to be at peace with each other.
But, it was not until he sang 'Animal Farm' that the thousands of Calypso music fans at the Festival City in Roseau, Dominica went wild.
In 'Animal Farm', 'The Dice' castigates politicians for their unsavory behavior.
The performance was boosted with persons dressed as animals on stage. 'The Dice' was dressed as a Dominican farmer. The 22-year-old calypso sensation even had the judges dancing to 'Animal Farm.'
His songs were written by Pat Aaron and his onstage choreography presentation coordinated by Randy Aaron.
Pat Aaron, Dominica Premier Music Producer and Song Writer
Pat Aaron was referred to as “ the great One” by The Dice, Dominica current Carnival Calypso Music Monarch who won the crown this year 'hands down' on every judge’s score-card. He won the road match crown with his up-tempo rendition of ‘Animal Farm’. His other crowd smashing calypso song 'Minding my business’, was also written by Pat Aaron.
Pat Aaron was referred to as 'King maker' by Ossie Lewis, magistrate and leading sport and event caster in Dominica.
Pat Aaron has been making calypso music kings since the early eighties, he crowned the "Zeye". In the nineties, he crowned king Hurricane - multiple crowns, and king Brakes. Each of these calypso music kings delivered some of the Pat Aaron calypso music classics; "Unarmed and dangerous". He also wrote "Wounded lion, I owe it all to you", by the king Hurricane and "keep the candles burning", by The Brakes.
More recently Pat has dominated the calypso music competition from the late nineteen nineties to present. From the king Hurricane to The Brakes in1999, lost to the Hunter in 2000, and regained it in 2001 to King daddy Chess, then to King Observer in 2002 and 2003, followed by the young King dice in 2004, who overwhelmingly took both the calypso music monarch and the Road-match music crowns.
Carnival 2003 will always remain in the memory of Dominicans and Caribbean music fans for the electrifying dramatic performance of ‘Wild wild west’, 'Return of Tarzan’ and ‘We aren't giving up’ by Daddy Chess, The Dice, and Observer respectively.
This year 2004, the dramatic music performance of Dice in both rounds, the stage setting and drama created by Randy Aaron was paramount to 2003. This year Pat penned another set of Calypso classics in, 'Montego-Bay', 'Minding my Business', and 'Animal farm'. Many Dominican and Caribbean music fans belief that one of the great memorable songs on this years compilation album was ‘Calypso on high’.
Pat is the Chief exec of the Showdown Mass Camp, a group which finds and develops new and young music talent in Dominica. Pat’s pen has also crowned the junior Calypso Music monarchs for the last three years, The other main producers of Showdown camp are; Edgar hunter, Bernard Georges, Annie Aaron and Randy Aaron.
