Traditional Diet Vs Colon Cleansing
Are you one of those people who can’t lose weight? You’ve tried exercising, fitness programs, grapefruit diets, cabbage soup diets etc, etc, and every other diet that comes along? I know for many people it just doesn’t seem to matter what they do or how they do it – the weight just won’t come off.
Or maybe your one of those people who has tried every diet that comes along and you do lose weight but after a week or a month or two the weight starts coming back. For many people this is a metabolism problem and for others it is just plain genetics. Whatever the cause, however, that doesn’t really do much for you or your self image now does it?
One method that we’ve all seen quite a bit on television the internet and most other media outlets is colon cleansing. Now I have to admit that not in a million years would I have ever thought that my weight problem had anything to do with my colon. I figured it had more to do with my mouth and how many times a day I was shoving food in it.
The thing about this colon cleansing “craze” is it just wont go away. So one has to wonder if it were a fad it would have been just about forgotten by now, but instead it keeps building momentum. I want try and compare the colon cleansing method with a more traditional method to see if anything can be made of it.
Colon Cleansing:
Many colon cleansing proponents believe colon cleansing provides health benefits by removing harmful toxins from their bodies, and boosting their energy and their immune systems. But some doctors take a different view.
Although some doctors may recommend colon cleansing in preparation for a medical examination of the colon, most don’t recommend colon cleansing for better health or to prevent disease. This is because many doctors feel it’s unnecessary. Your colon doesn’t require enemas or special diets or pills to eliminate waste material and bacteria. It does this naturally on its own.
In fact many doctors believe it may be harmful. The colon absorbs water and sodium to keep your body’s fluid and electrolyte balance. Some colon cleansing programs interrupt the natural balance, causing dehydration and salt depletion. Some even think that longer term colon cleansing or excessive programs can lead to problems such as anemia.
On the other side of the fence some other doctors feel that many other doctors, diet food companies, and health professionals are not admitting to the benefits a colon cleansing offers for economic causes.
But outside of what either side is saying on whether or not colon cleansing is necessary the thought that some doctors may have their own agenda is possible because it seems that the proof is all around us – Just look around you as more and more diet foods, magic diets, diet fads, health foods & even drugs supposedly designed to make you lose weight are becoming available, nevertheless people continue getting FATTER and FATTER and becoming LESS and LESS healthy!!
While it is obvious there is some division about what colon cleansing does, when it should be done and what benefits it can provide, there is no denying that many people are claiming to have had great success with it as most of us have seen on television or the internet.
Traditional weight loss method:
More traditional diets suggest in order for us to lose weight and keep it off we need to do some version of the following:
1. Keep portion sizes small – Bypass hamburgers with two or three beef patties, which can pack more than 1,000 calories and 70 grams of fat. Instead, choose a regular or child sized burger, which has about 250 to 300 calories. 2. Choose a healthier side dish – Instead of french fries choose a side salad with low-fat dressing or a baked potato. Or add a fruit bowl or a fruit and yogurt option to your meal. 3. Go for the greens – Choose a large entree salad with grilled chicken, shrimp or garden vegetables with fat-free or low-fat dressing on the side, rather than regular salad dressing, which can have 100 to 200 calories per packet. 4. Opt for grilled items – Select grilled or roasted lean meats such as turkey or chicken breast, lean ham, or lean roast beef. 5. Have it your way – Don’t settle for what comes with your sandwich or meal. Ask for healthier options and substitutions. For example, request reduced fat mayonnaise or mustard on your sandwich. 6. Watch what you drink – A large regular 32 ounce soda has about 300 calories. Instead, order diet pop, bottled water or unsweetened tea. Sparkling water or mineral water are also worth a try. Skip shakes and other ice-cream drinks. 7. Exercise – Walk, Run, jog, calisthenics are all good calorie burning activities. The important thing is to be consistent in these activities and that you do them several times a week. See the trainer at the gym for exactly what regiment you’d need to follow.
Both colon cleansing and traditional weight loss programs have their proponents and both have people reporting what fantastic results they’ve gotten by following either. So just like I’ve done here you should research what is available and then decide what is best for you, commit yourself to a course of action and stick with it. If you don’t you won’t see any results no matter which method you choose.
