5 Wonderful Formulas For Family Skin Care
Does good skin come from genes or from how you treat it? My family has a history of making and using its own formulas and the skin on all the relatives I know is exceptionally good.
My mother and her 6 sisters were attractive, funny and creative. With great (Italian) skin and a treasure trove of advice from their mother and aunts, they “cooked up” that worked for them and their families.
I suspect their heritage AND the they used were both important elements. My skin, with Norwegian genes added to the Italian, is drier and more sensitive than any of theirs, however using their formulas, I’m also blessed with great skin.
1. Cleansing with grape juice is good for any skin type. (Mash up enough grapes and you can also make wine…) You don’t really have to mash the fruits, you can simply split open a few grapes, remove pits and rub the juice on your face and neck. Rinse with cool water.
2. To remove dead skin cells, exfoliate oily skin about 3 times a week, dry skin once or twice a week. Combine oatmeal or cornmeal with enough plain yogurt to form a paste and work it gently over face, then rinse with warm water.
3. Facial masques rejuvenate skin, and honey tightens, smooths and brightens skin. Use RAW honey – cooked honey does not do the job half as well.
Honey, a natural antibiotic, is full of vitamins. It helps kill bacteria, prevent bacterial growth and moisturize to reduce and eliminate pimples. Smooth honey onto your face, avoiding eyes. Leave it on for 10 – 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
4. Toners restore the skin’s acid/alkali balance. Cucumber juice tones all skin types. Grate a cucumber, put the gratings in a clean wash cloth and pat the cucumber juice on your face.
5. Olive oil is wonderful moisturizer for all skins. Additionally, a mix of three parts sugar to one part olive oil makes a body and rough elbow or heel scrub. However, work gently as it can be quite abrasive.
Choose organic ingredients. Despite their higher cost, they make that’s a fraction of the price of commercial products, and they’re safe. Chemicals are toxins They can cause pimples and they get into the bloodstream very easily through the skin.
