Many of my massage clients suffer from high blood pressure, it’s such a common complaint that I’m quite used to giving aromatherapy advice for blood pressure problems. Massage with the use of essential oils can be very effective at tackling high blood pressure and bringing it back under control.

One of my regular clients was recently taken off the medication prescribed to her by her GP. She was able to stop taking the medicine because of the regular aromatherapy sessions she’s started taking with me. And I’ve heard similar stories from other masseuses that I know – they two have gained regular clients who had previously suffered from high blood pressure but were now able to rely on aromatherapy to help them.

Here is a list of some things that can help to stabilize your pressure, but please remember it’s important to speak with your doctor before you try anything too radical. Aromatherapy can help but that doesn’t mean you can decide to ditch your medicine without consulting an expert.

Aromatherapy essential oils that work well to tackle blood pressure:

* Lemon

* Ylang Ylang

* Clary Sage

* Lavender

* Marjoram

* Melissa

* Neroli

* Orange

The usual aromatherapy cautions apply of course. Please be careful when using essential oils, as some can have strong side effects. This list if pretty safe, but please heed the warning.

Now for some standard holistic advice that I give to all my clients, but it’s also great advice for dealing with high blood pressure. Try to eat more fresh fruit and vegetables. Vegetable soup is particularly good – celery, tomatoes, carrots. If you prefer supplements you should take Zinc, Copper, Vitamin C & E.

Garlic is a healthy and natural ingredient that combats high blood pressure and also cholesterol (the two often go hand in hand). If you don’t like the taste of garlic, instead you can take it in capsule form.

Hawthorn made into a tea is great, try one teaspoon of the dried herb per cup of water. Two cups daily is all you need – maybe one with breakfast and one after dinner. By working this changes into your daily routine, it’ll be easier to stick with them.

Broccoli has many chemicals that each work to reduce blood pressure. Also saffron is a worthwhile ingredient, use it in your cooking or try saffron tea. Valerian herb tear or valerian essential oil in an aromatherapy burner will help also.

The list goes on… Beets, especially black beets. Parsley, which is not only good for blood pressure but great at sorting out bad breath. Spices like oregano, black pepper, basil and tarragon are also wonder ingredients.

Make sure to avoid salty and pickled food. Licorice. Anything with saturated fats like burgers, chips, and the list. Avoid alcohol and smoking (that’s good advice for everyone). And finally, you’d be amazed what a brisk 15 minute walk a day can achieve!
