An effective hemorrhoid home treatment should do two things: Relieve the pain and help to heal the hemorrhoid.

The medical term, hemorrhoids, traditionally refers to swollen and stretched balloons of tissue filled with blood at the opening of the rectum and around the anus. 3. Many people get relief from external hemorrhoids by direct a pulsating stream of cold water from a hand-held shower head at the swollen tissue for a few minutes each day. This can shrink the swelling, stop the itch and, over time, may even eliminate the condition all together. NOTE – The pressure of the water should be low when you first try this. You can increase it over time as your tolerance builds up.

4. Hemorrhoids that are inside the rectum are better protected from irritation and may heal faster. If a hemorrhoid is sticking out, rub a heavy dose of Neosporin ointment on it and pop it back in with your finger.

5. Like the cold water from a shower head, placing an ice pack or bag on external hemorrhoids can help relieve the swelling and itching and is considered an effective hemorrhoid home treatment. Work you way up until you can comfortably leave the ice on the hemorrhoid for 15 to 20 minutes. If it is too cold to stand, especially at first, place a soft towel or rag between the ice and your skin.
