The first thing that your doctor will do for you when you get diagnosed with Crohn’s disease is write you some prescriptions. Most patients go straight to the pharmacy to fill them without thinking twice. That is a normal reaction of a human being that feels so sick. But there are other things and healing options you can choose for yourself.

When the symptoms of Crohn’s disease are moderate to severe you would need to mostly concentrate on medication as Crohns treatments. That’s where you don’t have a much of a choice. Natural healing methods take time to work. Also, natural healing methods can be time consuming.

Most likely the first medications the doctor will start you with are aminosalicylates. They are anti-inflammatory for mild to moderate symptoms of Crohn’s disease. Aminosalicylates have a relatively safe side effect profile.

If this Crohns disease treatment failed, the next step would be adding another type of Crohns medication like corticosteroids, for example Prednisone or antibiotic like Cipro.

If that failed or only partially helped, your gastroenterologist would probably start a newer kind of Crohns disease medication like biologicals. The examples of biologicals are Remicade, Cimzia, Humira, etc. The side effect profile of these medications is not as safe as aminosalicylates side effect profile. Here your side effects can lower your immune system’s response causing your body being very susceptible to outside bacteria, viruses, colds, and flu. You would need to be very careful and stay away from the places and people that may have infections and flu. But what do I do if I have to work in the pharmacy? What do you do if your child brings a virus home? What do you do if a loved one is in the hospital or nursing home? Just stop working, stop plalying with your kid, stop going to see your grandparent in the hospital? You and me both know that’s not going to happen. So what do you do?

I choose to combine my Crohns treatments and look at all aspects of natural healing like appropriate Crohns disease diet, acupuncture, relaxation techniques, natural vitamins and natural supplements and much more. Yes, I have mentioned that natural healing is time consuming and it’s not as easy as to pop a pill. I am a pharmacist, but not advocating only medications. Your health should be your greatest investment in your life. It’s well worth it to give the holistic Crohns treatments a try. You can do it.

I wish you to find your perfect Crohns treatments and minimize the side effects to a zero.
