Natural Infertility Treatment Even Better Than IVF
Natural infertility treatment is becoming more and more popular and at this rate will eventually replace IVF as the treatment of choice for infertility.
This trend reflects public disquiet at the performance and consequences of IVF treatment, which has come into severe criticism over recent years. When reading the following it’s important to remember that it’s not just a question of producing a child, but producing a healthy child that can lead a full, healthy and productive life, rather than a child with health problems with all the resultant expense, stress, unhappiness and expenditure of resources.

That same year (2007) saw Lord Winston, one of the pioneers of IVF treatment, attacking the IVF industry for being massively commercial and exploiting couples who were desperate to have a baby.
In August 2008 the British Medical Journal reported on an experiment involving 580 women divided into three groups comparable in age, weight, and partner’s sperm count. The three groups were given, respectively, IUI, natural infertility treatments, and IVF.
The IVF group came a poor third against IUI and natural infertility treatments. In a country like the UK, where one in seven couples experience infertility, with one in three having problems where there is no obvious cause, this finding is of great significance.
In February 2009, Dr Nargund, head of reproductive medicine at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, South London, UK, published a report in which she stated that not only does IVF treatment not make a lot of difference to the chances of a couple having a child but that it can actually lead to birth defects, cerebral palsy and premature birth, and other dangers for both mother and child.
She urged that what she termed “natural solutions to infertility” be given more consideration, and that more attention be paid to the lifestyle of the couple seeking help in starting a family, as the stresses and strains of modern living often conspire against the relaxed, stress-free environment required to achieve maximum fertility and to nurture a healthy foetus to maturity.
In the same month, a report published by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, based on research into 18,500 births, showed IVF babies were twice as likely to have heart defects and four and a half times more likely to be susceptible to digestive tract disorders. Risks of other defects, such as bowel disorders and cleft lip, were also increased significantly when IVF treatment was resorted to.
According to figures issued by the British Fertility Society, around one per cent more of IVF children suffer from some kind of birth defect, compared to the general population. It, too, favors natural fertility treatment for infertility problems over IVF treatment.
Could it be that nature herself favors her own remedies for problems connected with infertility? Perhaps the driving force of nature is forever looking for ways of improving and strengthening the species (no matter what species it may be) so it is given a better chance of survival in a changing world.
And could it be that enabling couples whose genetic make-up is not up to standard, in whatever way, to nevertheless contribute towards making the next generation, is not something that nature looks upon kindly.
Perhaps that’s why natural cures are always better than artificial cures, in the sphere of fertility as much as anywhere else.
