Natural Relief For Teething Babies
Teething babies are a parent’s worst nightmare. The first signs of teething is enough to send shivers down your spine. (Un)fortunately, teething is part of growing up and while you won’t be able to totally eliminate the pain – you can help ease it. Medication should be used as a last resort, there are quite a few natural ways to help sooth a teething baby that are safer for your child.
Natural Relief for Teething Babies
- Hard, chewable objects. Any hard object that is safe for children and does not pose a choking risk can provide relief for your teething baby. Cookies or biscuits are great as they soften as your baby chews on them. Other things such as plastic toys, blocks, or even the top of a sippy cup work great. Just make sure anything your baby is chewing on is safe and does not contain and hazardous materials.
- Teething Rings. They wouldn’t call them teething rings if they weren’t meant for teething. Teething rings come in all sorts of sizes with a variety of ‘hardness.’
- Homemade teething ring. Roll up a wash cloth, soak it in water and freeze it. The coldness helps to numb the gums and the cloth is soft enough to massage their gums.
- Apple slices. A firm, crunchy apple is also great for teething pain. Chill the apple to help soothe the gums as well.
- Massage with cold cloth. Dampen a wash cloth with cold water and wrap it around your finger. Gently massage your baby’s gums with minimal pressure. You can also allow your baby to gently bite and chew on your finger.
If these natural remedies don’t work, there is numbing medication available for teething babies. Ensure that you give the correct dosage and educate yourself on the side effects of the medication.
