Hangovers are an annoying problem from which no person who drinks alcoholic beverages is safe. No matter how big, how small, how old, or young, anyone can fall victim to the aftermath of a night out on the town. Throughout history, hangover remedies have existed in many forms. Some were successful while others just didn’t make the grade.

From home remedies to over the counter homeopathic hangover cures, this article will look at how to cure a hangover using several methods that can ease the morning after pains of hangovers, and some ways that just flat do not work. Try not to be too active, and give yourself time to rest. It might be a good time to catch up on all of those Kung Fu movies that have been laying around. Try to relax and remember that help is on the way, and if everything is blurry and still moving in slow motion, please do not get in a car and drive. Ask a friend to help get your supplies. So “hang” in there and keep the curtains closed until your eyes slowly adjust to the daylight.

Hangover Prevention – Chasers and Drinkin’ Mate

Before I get into the actual hangover cure methods, there are a couple of products on the market that boast the ability to prevent a hangover all together.

Chasers – This product is a pill solution that is taken before going out for a night of drinking. There is a recommended dosage on the bottle so, if you drink over your limit, you can take more pills. According to their studies, Chasers reduces 17 different hangover symptoms like headache and body aches.

Drinkin’ Mate- This is an effervescent tablet that can be taken before, during, and after drinking to lessen aches and pains from a hangover as a result of drinking alcohol. Just put two tablets in water and let them dissolve.

PreToxx – Another tablet based hangover prevention supplement. Just take these before drinking and wake up the next day feeling like you never had anything to drink.

*None of these products give a person a stronger “tolerance” for alcohol, your body will still negotiate the same amount of alcohol as it always does. These products simply reduce aches and pains associated with hangovers.

Best Hangover Cures

Two things happen to your body when you are out on a late night bender, dehydration and Hypoglycemia. Obviously, the best hangover cure is to not go out drinking all night. Who wants a boring night at home anyway. After hours of research, I have compiled these tried and true methods of how to cure a hangover.

1. Replenish What Was Lost – Your body loses electrolytes when you drink alcohol, and your body needs electrolytes and vitamins and minerals to function properly. So a really inexpensive way to beat down your evil hangover is to start drinking juice immediately. Orange juice for Vitamin C and the fructose. Gatorade is also good for replacing the lost electrolytes. Some countries have uncommon hangover remedies like drinking pickle juice. By all means, don’t forget about drinking water.

2. Sleep Is Your Best Friend – Your body will need rest to recover from over use while you are out all night with your friends. Normally your sleep will be reduced because of dreaming or waking up frequently during the night to use the bathroom. So take it easy the next day. Keep the curtains drawn, to keep it nice and dark, and sleep. Try to stay away from caffeine as it is a stimulant and will keep you awake and unable to sleep. Also, coffee will just contribute to your already dehydrated state.

3. Hair Of The Dog That Bit You – If you are really ailing, one of the quickest ways to get relief is to have a morning after drink like a drink called Hair of the Dog That Bit You (Mix of Gin and Tabasco like sauce are mixed). A very popular morning after drink is a Bloody Mary. Tomato juice and the celery are full of vitamins and can help you out of your hangover doldrums more quickly.

4. Beware The Medicine Cabinet – I know the headaches are killers, but try to take it easy on the aspirin and ibuprofen. Aspirin is a blood thinner, like alcohol, and can do away with your headache, but prolong the overall experience. Tylenol, and ibuprofen can seriously damage your liver. If you are looking for something to take, and this might be the best advice out there, try an Alka Seltzer Morning Relief. I have heard from some people that have taken this product that they have been fine about 30 minutes after taking Morning Relief.

5. You Stink – Did I forget to mention that you don’t smell exactly like roses after a night out? A great way to negate aches and pains is to jump in the shower. So find your shower and wash some of that stank off your body. Cold or hot water is your personal preference.

Rehydration Is The Key

Shenanigans are completely worth the hangover. Just hang in there and remember that rehydration is the key. Some other natural hangover remedies include taking a couple tablespoons of honey every half an hour or so. Add the honey to some hot tea and have some crackers or maybe nibble on some dry toast.

As a side note, one of my favorite remedies I have absolutely no explanation for, but it does work for me, is having a $0.39 ice cream cone from McDonald’s. That is actually the only reason I even go to a McDonald’s anymore. It does work for me though. About halfway through, I don’t feel as bad and my head is clearer.

Did you take one too many tequila shots with your college buddies last night and are seriously regretting it this morning? All that booze has swiftly traveled up to your head through the night and now you can’t think straight because of a constant pounding in your head, you are bending over to reach a bag to throw up in and you feel like you might never be able to get out of bed? Welcome to the world of hangovers.

The best cure to one is not to drink too much in the first place but if you have over-indulged yourself, don’t worry. There are ways to alleviate the symptoms of a hangover.

Firstly, lets look at how you can save yourself the agony. To prevent the effects of a hangover which are mostly due to dehydration, drink as much water as possible before going to sleep. This will also assist the body in getting purged of the alcohol in your system. Taking water every once in a while during your drinking marathon can also stop hangover from occurring the next day.

Another way is to munch on something before or during drinking.

If none of these tips work or if you didn’t pay heed to them then here are ways to beat the nausea, dizziness and exhaustion:

    * Again, top of the list is water. Drink like a fish to keep all of last night’s booze down. Adding a bit of lemon juice will also calm the nausea. Do not drink water that is either too warm or too cold. Go for something at room temperature.

    * You must have seen people in movies waking up with hangovers and reaching for a pot of strong black coffee. Bad idea! The caffeine in coffee will serve to dehydrate your body even more. Plus, it has diuretic properties so of course it will leave your stomach feeling worse than ever.

    * Bland water too much for you to face? Substitute it with ginger ale. This will help you calm your stomach. Make sure it is flat and not fizzy.

    * Fresh fruit juice is another good option. The vitamin C found in it will provide you with quick energy that your body so craves.

    * Do not ignore your thirst. Even some energy drinks can be helpful to some people.

    * To ease the dry feeling in your mouth, take a few tablespoons of honey or stir it in with a glass of water.

    * When you have had enough water try swallowing a few slices of plain toast and keeping it down. Do not apply any topping like marmalade or peanut butter.

    * For a little freshening up and getting energy into your exhausted body, try eat a little fruit.

    * In case it’s impossible for you to look at any solid food or even juices resort to multivitamins.

    * Take some aspirin to get rid of the headache. Tylenol and Panadol are common choices. Use them in the morning and not at night when your body is still loaded with the alcohol.

    * Sleep it off. Use all the remedies given above and hit the pillow again.

    * Wrap your head in a cool wash cloth or compress. Try to relax.

How about teaming up your favorite meal with the best of wine this weekend? It sounds a great idea but don’t you think you may overindulge? Well, you may not mind this but what about the hangover you have to face, the other morning. How about spending you entire Sunday afternoon sitting inside the bathroom, with one hand on your forehead and the other on your stomach? Scary isn’t it?

Hey, hold on! I am not trying to scare the life out of you. I am just showing you the real picture of a hangover that you may require to face the following day after you have overindulged in your favorite wine.

This sounds really bad but don’t worry, there are many tips you can follow in order to get rid of a wine hangover. All you need to do is to follow the instructions given below:

a) Water, water and water:

Water is the key to get over the wine hangover. Drink plenty of water. Alcohol has a tendency to dehydrate your body. This is the main reason that most people end up having a lot of liquids in the form of plain water, lemon water, coffee and black tea without having pee for a single time. If you want to stay away from the temptation of overindulging in wine, the best way is to have a glass of water for each glass of wine you desire to have. Wine is a great source of water, but the presence of water tends to produce adverse effects on the body. Hence, it is necessary to keep hydrating your body with water.

b) Binge in:

Sounds great! Believe me, it really works. Eat your favorite meal or some snacks an hour before a drink. This will save you from getting involved into overindulge and the hangover. The meal or snack should include bread or pasta.

c) No prescription drugs:

So you want to save money! It’s a good idea but you should not save money via mixing your glass of wine with prescription drugs for more effects. This will only damage your body. Drink less if you really want to save money.

d) Milk:

Drink a glass of milk prior to consuming wine. This will provide a protection coat to your stomach and helps you absorb the alcohol in the wine.

e) No salt:

Salt will prove dangerous as it tends to maximize the process of dehydration. You should stay away from salt when having margarita…

f) An aspirin:

An aspirin will help you to remove headache. Avoid taking ibuprofen or paracetamol. These medicines usually have adverse effects on the body especially after the consumption of wine.

g) Avoid dark drinks:

The major hangover you experience may be due to combining red wine with whiskey. You should mix whiskey with soda or water. Avoid mixing it with cola and tonic.

Hangover is due to over indulgence in wine. Try to stay away from it. Follow the instructions mentioned above you would feel better after a wine party with your friends.

If you’ve ever wondered what causes hangovers the answer to that question is simply this, hangovers are caused by drinking more alcohol than your body can handle. Even a single alcoholic drink can trigger a hangover for some people. Some other others may drink heavily and escape a hangover entirely. Generally, however, more than three to five alcoholic drinks for a woman and over five to six for a man will usually result in a hangover. About 75 percent of people who drink alcohol to intoxication will have a hangover the next day.

The effects of hangovers typically begin within several hours after your last drink. Depending on what you drank and how much you drank, you may experience fatigue , thirst, headaches and muscle aches, nausea, vomiting or stomach pain, poor or decreased sleep, sensitivity to light and sound, dizziness or a sense of the room spinning, rapid heartbeat, bloodshot eyes, shakiness, decreased ability to concentrate, mood disturbances, such as depression, anxiety and irritation and more.

Just about anyone who drinks alcohol beverages can experience a hangover. However, some people are more susceptible to hangovers than are others. Research hasn’t clearly shown whether light drinkers or heavy drinkers are more likely to experience hangovers.

If you want to avoid or prevent a hangover there a variety of good way to do just that, one would be to eat a good dinner before you go out drinking. Food will absorb some of the alcohol you are going to drink. When you drink choose clear alcohol like light rum, white wine, or vodka or light beer. Continue to eat while you are drinking especially foods higher in fat and carbohydrates, like pretzels or chocolate. This will slow down on the alcohol absorption. Drinking water along with or after every alcoholic beverage will help you to avoid a nasty headache. If you feel a hangover coming on in the morning, eat something and take some Ibuprofen, drink several large glasses of water, and go back to sleep.

However, you can prevent hangovers altogether. Preventing hangovers is easy as taking a natural supplement before you go out. Visualize, if you can, simply consuming a natural supplement pill before you drink alcohol that will prevent hangover without any negative side effects what so ever and you have just experienced GoodbyeHangovers.

When you take GoodbyeHangovers before you drink alcohol you will enjoy yourself and avoid an annoying headache, avoid feeling nauseous, have mental clarity the next day and actually have the have the energy & motivation you need to get through your day.

This natural supplement allows you to enjoy a great night out or simply have some drinks without suffering any of the regrettable side effects that alcohol causes. It works on every level to prevent hangover symptoms and headaches. GoodbyeHangovers absorbs, blocks and fights the toxins in alcoholic beverages that cause hangovers so you don’t get one. You will not get a headache while drinking and you will wake up feeling great the next day.

Yes, it’s the holiday season once again. With the holidays brings time spent with family and friends…weight gain and soaring credit card debt. Avoid the holiday hangover with the following 5 ways to keep you balanced through the holiday season:

1. Maintain your workout routine. Don’t give up on your workout routine even though things are a bit hectic this time of year. Your body needs to counteract stress through added activity. Holiday anxiety is caused by deviating from our normal routine. Try to squeeze in 15 to 20 minutes of activity before breakfast or after dinner.

2. Eat more good food. Unfortunately, pie, chocolates and candy canes don’t constitute as “good food.” Fill up on salads and fruits instead of sweets. Don’t avoid the temptation to eat yummy foods, just be sure to fill up on the good stuff first.

3. Take supplements. Holiday food is loaded with sugar, trans fats and processed ingredients. Seek advice on quality supplements to maintain diet integrity during the holidays.

4. Sign up for a race. The holiday season provides ample opportunity to participate in 5k or 10k races in the form of a fundraiser or a local event. These races are quick – you can walk or run and even bring your dog. It will provide you with a sense of accomplishment and will help balance out excessive holiday eating.

5. Shovel in good form. Don’t let shoveling disable you. Be careful not to bend and twist while shoveling as this will destroy the lumbar disks in your back. Use your knees, flatten your back and take breaks as necessary.

The holiday season means we will eat bad and exercise less. Moderation is the key. Doing small things will keep you balanced through the holiday season. Maintaining balance means you’ll look back on the holiday season and remember that it was great instead of being happy that it’s over.

The morning after the night before. You wake up on the floor of your room in the same clothes you wore last night and you can still taste the remnants of the takeaway you devoured on the way home. Upon opening your eyes you utter the immortal and too often spoken words “I’m never drinking again!”. The promise is made every saturday and sunday morning by anyone who has overindulged themselves the night before and you can gaurantee that as soon as the following weekend comes around these same people will be out drinking themselves into the same state.

Of course I am referring to every drinkers nightmare – The Hangover. It simply drains the energy from you and turns you into a walking zombie.
If like me you suffer with terrible hangovers then never fear because help is at hand. I have prepared a top 10 list of hangover cures and remedies to get you back to your old self as soon as possible with minimal hassle.

Cure Number 1 – The Hair of the Dog.

OK so this is probably not the best way to cure the hangover. The last thing anyone wants to do after a severely heavy night on the town is to go back down the pub. This technique is simply a way of postponing the horror of the hangover by topping up the levels of alcohol already floating about in your bloodstream. This method is commonly used among students and younger drinkers who love to live the party lifestyle but beware it only postpones the inevitable.

Cure Number 2 – Re-hydration

This is a common mistake made among most people. Making sure to take on as much water as possible is one of the best ways to avoid a hangover. Around about 200ml of water per 30ml of alcohol is a good rule of thumb. Usually most people are either too tired or too drunk after their night of drinking and simply collapse when they get home. So make sure you drink lots of water before you go to bed. It may mean several trips to the toilet in the night but believe me its worth it.
Sports drinks are also a good idea. The taste might not always be any good but try and consume as much Lucozade, Powerade and any other “ade” you can find.

Cure Number 3 – Food

If you’ve got a steaming hangover get over to your local café and order a huge big fry-up.

Protein is a good source of amino acids and a good hearty breakfast has loads, so you’ll soon be on the road to recovery.

Actually food is a good idea all round – before, during and immediately after drinking. Food doesn’t absorb alcohol, but it does increase metabolism, activates alcohol absorption, and increases the speed with which the body processes alcohol.
You may not be able to keep any food down but as much as it might not feel like it it is helping.

Cure Number 4 – Lots of Rest

Going back to bed is an effective way to help your body regenerate and recover. The reason I say “go back” to bed is because simply staying in bed all day is not a good idea (unless you have found some poor mug to cater for your ever need). Make sure you get up, have something to eat and drink, maybe even have a shower to freshen yourself up. Only then should you consider going back to bed. Wouldn’t you much rather be asleep for the pounding headache and the upset stomach?

Cure Number 5 – Don’t drink so much in the first place!

I no it seems obvious but its true. Try and think about moderating the amount you drink during the night. Don’t be conned by your mates or crack under peer pressure to have that “one more” shot or that “swift pint” before you go home. Make sure you no when you’ve had enough.

Cure Number 6 – Fresh Air and maybe some exercise.

The second last thing you probably want to do is to crawl out from under your duvet and brave the sunlight. The last thing however would be to do any exercise. However this is good for you as it speeds up your metabolic rate and processes the alcohol quicker. It doesn’t have to be anything too strenuous just a simple walk around the block would be fine.

Cure Number 7 – Headache Pills

Some people swear by the notion that taking headache tablets before you go to bed is a great way to prevent a hangover or at least reduce the pain. Wrong! A better idea is to take a couple of headache tablets, preferably ibuprofen based ones, in the morning followed by a big glass of water then head straight back to bed. At least his way your head won’t feel as thought there is a Frenchman living in it.

Cure Number 8 – Don’t mix your drinks.

A good way to make sure that the hangover from hell doesn’t come and invade your skull is to stick to one type of drink. Drinking spirits, lagers, shots and anything else you may get your hands on is not a great idea. Its not big and its not clever.

Cure Number 9 – Banana’s

Bananas have sugar in the form of fructose, they also have potassium, which is one of the things you lose a lot of when you’ve been out getting hammered. Bananas are also a natural antacid which helps with the nausea, and are high in magnesium which can help relax those pounding blood vessels causing that hangover headache.

Cure Number 10 – Tomato’s

Tomatoes are full of antioxidants and vitamins and they’re healthy so get munching. If you don’t like eating tomatoes, drink them in a Bloody Mary. You’ll feel better in about 15 minutes.

Bloody Mary

-1.5 oz vodka

-Dash of lemon (or lime) juice

-Worcestershire sauce

-2 or 3 drops Tabasco sauce

-Pepper, salt and celery salt

-5 oz tomato juice

-Serve in a tall glass over ice

If the idea of more alcohol turns your stomach why not try making a Virgin Mary, it’s exactly the same recipe except without the Vodka.

Special Tip Number 11 – The Sauna.

This is a potentially dangerous method of recovery and will involve you having to set some sort of world record for the most glasses of water drunk consecutively. If you and a few friends take a trip down to the local sauna then stay in there for around 10mins (No Longer!) then you will sweat out all the toxins in your body. However you will have to drink as much water as you possibly can because you will obviously be dehydrated to begin with. Beware because there are some nasty side effects of you spending time in this sweaty environment. The place will smell of pure alcohol and sweat and it will not be pleasant.

This is about all the advice I can offer you except for good luck and happy drinking.

The main causes of a hangover are drinking more alcohol than your body can metabolize efficiently causes the toxins in the alcohol to build up in your body. A chemical known as acetaldehyde is an alcohol by-product, and is responsible for the severe symptoms of a hangover. The ethanol found in alcohol has a dehydrating effect, which is responsible for your raging headache, dry mouth and tiredness.

Dark spirits such as red wine, brandy and whiskey contain more congeners (by-products of the process of alcohol fermentation), which increase the symptoms of a hangover. Cheaper spirits are also known to cause a worse hangover because fewer impurities have been removed. Another key factor is your body weight. A smaller body weight usually means a greater hangover. Mixing your drinks is a sure way to lead to a hangover.

When you mix your drinks, for instance tequila and whiskey, you are actually mixing the different poisons of the alcohol together. More pressure is then placed on the liver to get rid of the toxins and cleanse the system by flushing them out – causing more dehydration.

Therefore some remedies for getting rid of hangovers include the following common sense remedies. If you do have any alcohol, drink small amounts. Remember that small amounts of better-quality alcohol will cause fewer hangover symptoms. Eating a large meal before drinking will line the stomach and slow down the rate of alcohol absorption into the bloodstream. Drinking water during and after alcohol consumption can minimize alcohol-induced dehydration, which is one of the main causes of a hangover. More importantly know your limits and pace yourself by drinking slowly (the body metabolizes alcohol and needs time to do so).

There is also an herbal product called Pre-Party Protect that helps to support the liver during times of excess & over-indulgence called party protect. This herbal product encourages the body to naturally stabilize after excessive rich food or alcohol consumption and support the body’s natural ability to promote equilibrium after over-indulgence.

Finally prevention is always better than the cure therefore I strongly recommend that if you do drink alcohol, you do so with moderation and caution.

Drank too much last night? Head aches, mouth dry, you are nauseous? That’s a hangover for sure. But why does that happen? Let’s see scientifically why hangovers occcur and how to cure them.

The hangover is caused by a combination of the toxic by-product of alcohol metabolism (acetaldehyde), dehydration, and Vitamin A, B (particularly B6) and C depletion brought about by the chemical action of alcohol on your system.

Some drinks give you worse hangovers than others due to the actions of impurities it contains. These impurities are called congeners. It’s the ethyl alcohol (ethanol) that gets you drunk, but the amyl, butyl, methyl, propyl, and isopropyl alcohols that are also found in most drinks (more or less), and the concentration of these congeners determine how bad your hangover will be.

The white (clear) spirits have less congeners than the colored ones (vodka, gin, tequila as opposed to whisky and cognac) as they are filtered. Another special “impurity” which really gives you a sick feeling after drinking is acetaldehyde, a by-product of the natural oxidation of ethanol. This is usually contributing to the super headache one feels.
What can be done about it?

There are lots of cures from folklore and each country and culture seems to have their own. Below you can read the result of exhaustive research, and popularity of cures among the published articles found worldwide.

Special Rule: If you forget to at night, take two oils containing Isobruphen. There are several names for this medicine, but do NOT take aspirin or other similar medicines. Only Isobuphen appears to work, and other painkillers with acetaminophen can damage your liver.

General Rule: Often called “hair of the dog that bite you”. a Bloody Mary cocktail seems to bring you back to normal. In conjunction with Isobuphen, a Bloody Mary can work quite dramatically. Here is my recipe, taken from a famous Japanese restaurant in New York;

•	One shotglass of vodka (use the best you can find)

•	Dash of lemon juice

•	Worcestershire sauce

•	2 or 3 drops Tabasco sauce or more if you can handle it

•	Pepper, salt and celery salt

•	5 oz tomato juice

Over ice in a tall glass add spices, then vodka.
Fill with tomato juice and stir.
Garnish with celery stick and lime wedge.

Special Rules:

1.	Take a hot shower

2.	Do deep breathing exercises in front of an open window

3.	Walk in place till your heartbeat is about 115 beats per minute then stop

4.	As you feel better, drink lots of pure clean water

5. Eat bananas. Bananas contain high volumes of fructose, and and potassium, which is one of the things you lose lots of when you drink. Bananas are also a natural antacid to help with the nausea, and are high in magnesium which can help relax those pounding blood vessels causing that hangover headache.

Obviously one would not like to drink too much and suffer the consequences of a hangover the next day, but following the rules above will alleviate most or all of the symptoms.

Make sure you wear green so you don’t get pinched. Go out to the bars, throw your drink in the air- Cheers! It’s St. Patty’s Day. Even if you’re not Irish, it’s an excuse to celebrate and party.

You’ve had a good time enjoying the holiday festivities, and now, the dread morning after, you might need a little help. Your head feels like a leprechaun is banging you with a sledge hammer; your mouth is as dry as when the dentist suctions your mouth; your body feels like it’s on a swing, and your mind is wondering what to do about it.

If you’re hungover -a mild form of dehydration- it’s your body’s way of trying to process the alcohol and rid your system of it, while breaking down the alcohol in your body.

Nutritionist, Jeannette Freed, says, “The day after drinking, your body not only needs to replenish its water supply, but also its potassium and magnesium. To help restore nutrients after your night out, try drinking 100% natural coconut water-refreshing and nutritious water from inside a young, green (not brown) coconut. Natural coconut water re-hydrates your body, has more electrolytes and potassium (more potassium than bananas) than conventional sports drinks, few calories, no artificial additives, and is naturally fat-free.”

Whether you’ve partied or not, natural coconut water hydrates you, and has many other health benefits as well.

Jeannette says, “Drinking natural coconut water helps with digestion, optimizes muscle performance (so drink it after exercising), boosts your immune system and circulation, raises your metabolism, and keeps your body at the proper temperature. Around the world, women put coconut water directly on their skin for hydration.”

Even if you wear green on St. Patty’s day, you might feel like you got pinched due to that morning-after-drinkin’ feeling, and will need a little shamrock luck. Cure your hangover and gain other health benefits by drinking coconut water.

Drink coconut water brands such as Zico (found in your local grocery store) and you’ll find yourself feeling like a pot of gold.
